Typhoon shot to the front at the furlong post but could, n. . 1 old off Rubontine, who had come 1 last. Typhoon gained two length.'. . tiie start but was steadied into third place. He was only fifth into the straight but got a run through and went straight up to the leaders. He appeared a winner until Rubontine, with a sustained run, came on the scene. Cherie Marie got up in the last few strides to win the Oaks Stakes. It was her first win in a race. The three-year-old Don Pedro had a comfortable win over his older rivals in the Fisher Plate, in which the Caulfield Cup winner St. Fairy, finished last. Silver Link continued his unlucky sequence when he was beaten into second place in the V.R.C. Handicap. Hp was clear with a furlong to go but Counsel finished too strongly. The Adelaide filly, Minion, made her record five wins in five starts by winning the Flemington Stakes. High Play- was unplaced in the Final Handicap. Immediate was withdrawn from all engagements.
