CHURCH “TOUGH” CLUBS”
YOUTH COUNCIL’S PROPOSAL
London, Nov. 9. Suggestions for organising “tough “clubs” for street-corner boys and girls, who are described as the Church’s greatest problem in industrial districts, are contained in a namphlet issued by the Church of England Youth Council. The pamphlet says: “Tough chibs call for a special type of leader. His young people are masters of Ihe unexpected, and he must he also. To hold a service or give a religious talk in a tough club during its first few weeks would be casting pearls before swine, because these children of God, through our neglect, are more animal than human.”
The pomphlet adds that clubs first of all should be in old, bare premises. without anything breakable such as chairs, pictures, and vases.
