AUSTRIA WANTS SOUTHERN TYROL REGION
Vienna, Sept. 8. The Renner Government has sent a memorandum to the Allied Commission requesting the return to Austria of Southern Tyrol, which was ceded to Italy after the last war. It asked that a memorandum should be forwarded to a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers in London. The Government suggested that a plebiscite should be held in the disputed area, of which Bolzano and Merano were the largest towns, arguing that the “present state of reconstruction makes it possible to right a wrong done earlier, especially in view of the strategical considerations, which then were decisive but no longer exist.”
