AMERICAN FORCES NOT IN NEED NOW GROWERS MUST MAKE ADJUSTMENT. (P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., Sept. 5. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Roberts, said to-night that indications now were to hand that New Zealand may not. require to supply green vegetables for export to American forces after the end of 1945. He, therefore, advised growers: (1) That no further plantings of vegetables, under contract to the Internal Marketing Division, should take place from to-day without the authority of the Division’s district office. (2) Any grower who has made any commitments in preparation for planting, under contract with the division, should immediately lodge full details with the local office of the d v - sion. or its field officers, with a view to settlement of compensation where necessary. Growers must also supply full details of the acreage now planted under contract. (3) Of vegetabels already sown or planted, the division will take delivery, but where delivery is estimated to be made after December 31. this fact should immediately be notified in writing to the division’s branch office, to enable arrangements to be made for the acceptance of vegetables maturing in the new year. Mr. Roberts added that similar procedure would apply to potatoes and onions, and the division would collaborate closely with the New Zealand Grain, seed and Produce Merchants’ Federation towards this end.
