ON WANGANUI TRACKS

YESTERDAY’S TRAINING OPERATIONS

Ideal weather and track conditions yesterday morning favoured the training operations of the many visiting hordes already here for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting, which opens to-morrow and will be concluded next. Saturday. The times registered however, were not as impressive as have been placed to the credit of some of the good horses of a few years back, providing evidence that the track has been slightly affected by the recent heavy rain.

The three-year-old Revelation colt Second Seal, who ran quite a good lace to finish second to Golden Kea at New Plymouth, slipped over five furlongs in 64 3-ssec., the last half-mile taking him 51 3-ssec. Lord Coronach and Kirstymac covered the first furlong of three in 12 3-5 sec. and completed the journey in 37 4-5, both doing it. well. Kirstymac is the Nizami filly which led Blue Simon home in the parade at New Plymouth last Saturday. Lily Ann was clocked home in 26 3-5 sec. for the last quarter of a useful work-out. Captain Courageous and Stanford King, two members of the Te Rapa team of A. C. Jones, were associated in a task over seven furlongs, which they left behind in lmm. 25 4-ssec., taking 53 l-ssec. for the initial half. Captain Courageous, who contested the hurdle race at New Plymouth is to take on the ten-furlong Putiki Hack Handicap to-morrow. Kilarney Boy, one of the large field in the Durie Hack Handicap, was do-, ing it nicely at the end 6f four furlongs, run in 5 2-ssec. The Saleve gelding was prominent in the concluding event at New Plymouth until the straight was reached, and * under the conditions was responsible for a creditable effort. The Phaleron Bay—No Humbug filly All Bay ran three furlongs by herself in 38 3-ssec. She will carry Mr. E. Nixon’s colours in the Debutant Stakes. .Colonel Vaals, Michael and Good Effort got away fairly well together from a standing start at. the four-furlong peg and ran the initial furlong in 13 sec. and the quarter in 25 l-ssec. Colonel Vaals finishing just in front of Michael to record 50sec. ti with Good Effort three or four lengths further back. Master Francis was given a solo effort over live furlongs, being clocked home in 65 3-ssec. Miss Caen St. Lucien a start at the half-mile and then gathered up her companion to run the quarter in 25sec. and the full distance in 51 2-ssec. Miss Caen is a smart customer and is likely to keep the opposition busy in the hack sprint tomorrow. Derryogue brushed home with Gay Tide over the two furlongs up the straight in 25sec. and appeared to have suffered no ill effects from her race at New Plymouth, where Leybourne and the mud beat her. Riverlight's four-furlong task occupied 52sec. Stony Broke and Breezealong jumped off just short of the six furlong peg to runjhe full distance in lmin. 16 4-5 sec., ine last five furlongs taking them a shade under 65sec. It was quite a good work-out. Battle Lord and Broielov took 54j sec. to run the first half-mile ot six furlongs and came home well to record lmin. 21 2-ssec.

Bravura (P. McGuire) gave a good display over five flights of the hurdles, his jumping being clean and fast. He had Nanook as a companion, but the Foxlight gelding ran off at the first two fences. He was then taken up on the inside of Bravura and jumped the hudrle down the back all right, but again ran off at the first hurdle in the straight, but negotiated the last flight satisfactorily. Brown Derby, under restraint, ran the first furlong of six in 14 1-5 being eager to go faster, and then ran to the half-mile in 51 2-5, coming home under a pull in lmin 17 l-ssec. The Robin Goodfellow gelding is in good order and has settled down splendidly, showing no waywardness on the tracks, so his debut in the Maiden Race to-morrow is being awaited with keen interest.

Al Sirat and Bridge Acre were associated in a spin over five furlongs which they left behind in a tick under 67sec. Al Sirat is to start his thre-year-old career in the Wanganui Guineas.

Useful tasks were given Glamor Girl. Light Fantastic Enard Bay, Our Nation and a number of visiting horses.
