Recd. 6 p.m. Amsterdam, July 16 Canadian troops came into Amsterdam on July 8 loaded with cigarettes for sale to Dutchmen, who paid good prices. Th? Canadian • the following day went tc the Dutch finance office and discovered that the Dutch hail paid in 100-guilder notes which had been invalidated that day. Posters around the city proclaimed th** Government’s action, but they wore printed in Dutch and nobody bothered to translate for the benefit of the visitors.
