GENERAL CHENNAULT’S TRIBUTE TO CHINA

"Under the leadership of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek and General Wedemeyer, the Japanese will be driven out o£ Chinese soil sooner than sollne people think,” said General CHennault. General Chennault said he was shocked deeply by the criticism of the Chinese armies and Government “made recently by irresponsible persons at home." He declared’ that the Chinese armies and Chiang's Government were “no more fauitle-s than any others." “I have the deepest admiration for the Generalissimo's courage, foresight, and unwavering loyalty to the cause we share,” he said. "I think it is time for us to remember we owe China an immense debt."
In a tribute to General Wedemeyer, General Chennault said the war was at a low ebb when the United States assumed command. “I think I can claim I am not easily discouraged, but even I was discouraged,” General Chennault added. “General Wehmeyer brought splendid energy and determination to attack a most difficult situation.” General Chennault added that illhealth caused his resignation, and he would remain only while General Wedemeyer needed him.
