OBITUARY
MR. C. H. HUMPHREY. J P. The death has occurred in Hamilton of Mr. Charles Henry Humphrey, well known in Marton, Mangaweka and Taumarunui. Born in Hailsham, Sussex, England, he arrived in New Zealand with his parents, the late Frances and Henry Humphrey, in the sailing ship Waimea, in the year 1876, settling with them in Marton. He married Miss Agnes L. Armstrong, of Wanganui, who predeceased him in 1918. For a number of years he was on the staff of Mr. John McEldowney, Marton, later moving to Mangaweka, v\herc he conducted a business on his own account, cfl?rwards taking up farming in the aumarunui district. Eventually he retired and settled in Hamilton. The late Mr. Humphrey in bis younger days, took part in the Maori War and was a very keen rifleman, having won many" valuable belts and other trophies. He*leaves a family oi three daughters and four sons— Messrs Douglas and Stanley (Auckland). Basin (Onehunga) and Edward (Putaruru), Mrs A. A. Edwards (Hamilton), Mrs. H. Were (Melbourne), Mrs. C. Morris (Putaruru). The burial took place in Hamilton.
