RANGITIKEI HOCKEY
REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS BEAT MANAWATU (0.C.) Marton, July 8 Rangitikei sent two women’s hockey teams to Palmerston North on Saturday for their first representative games of the season. The visitors won both matches after some fast bright hockey. In a somewhat patchy game Rangitikei defeated Manawatu B by tnree goals to one. Some individual players exhibited representative hockey, but play on the hole, though closely contested. was rather ragged. Goals for Rangitikei were scored by D. Paterson (two) and L. Paterson (one). In the main game Rangitikei A did not settle down till after the first half, which was scoreless. Early in the second spell Manawatu A attacked grimly, and passed freely. By virtue of their fast forwards the visitors scored five goals and were still on the offensive when the game ended. They won by five goals to one. This match was very fast, with the direction of play changing continuously. Some very good play was seen and when Rangitikei settled down they developed more cohesion than their opponents. Goals for Rangitikei were scored by M. Hutton (2), L. Sadler, J. Bush and E. Pederson.
