HUNTER VILLE. Mr. William Watt; who is well known and highly esteemed in Hunterville, where he has frequently resided with his son (Mr. Alex Watt) has been indisposed for some time and friends will be sorry to learn that he has had to enter Wanganui Hospital. His condition, however, is satisfactory. Mr. D. M. Mac Kay has resumed duty at the Bank of New Zealand after being absent, on annual leave, which he spent in Gisborne and Wanganui. Air. Joyce, who has been on the relieving staff here, has gone on to Papakura. Mr. “Tommy” Brunton, who underwent an operation in a Wanganui private hospital some weeks ago. has returned home and is making excellent progress towards recovery. Mr. L. Kerr, who has been stationmaster at Hunterville for some years now, has received promotion as a result of the local railway station be:ng raised from Grade 5 to Grade 4. Mr. and Mrs. A. Berry, of Te Awamutu, are staying with Mrs. Berry’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Taylor. MARTON. N.C.O. Tare Barker, son of Mr. H. L. Barker, of Ashburton, and nephew of Miss V. Barker, of Marton, who has been a prisoner of war. for several years in Italy and later in Stalag 383. Germany has now been released and is safe in the United Kingdom. At Court Little John meeting on Tuesday evening a motion of sympathy to Brother Allen Powell in the loss of his son. Lieut. George Powell, was canned in silence. Mr. Allan St.antiall, of Marton, ha; received advice that his son. Ron Stantiall, who has been a-prisoner of war for three vears in Germany, has .1 ri\ed in England safe and well.
