FRONT GATE MILK DELIVERY

Sir, —I wish to correct the completely erroneous impression which must ‘be cheated by your article in Tuesday's issue under the above heading.

’A he stated estimate that vendors will save 50 per cent in delivery time is an absurd exaggeration, it is purely theoretical, and not based, as it undoubtedly should have been, on the practical experience of local vendors. The writer, operating his own round with 90 per cent, front gate delivery, is saving 20-25 minutes daily under the new method or about one-seventh ot his previous delivery time, a vastly different proportion to the wild guess of 50 per cent, as quoted in your article.

It. is high time that the general public was informed that vendors, instead of deriving a real benefit from the “new order,” are in a considerably worse position financially than hitherto, as the small saving of a few hours per week is a totally inadequate compensation for the profit-cut which has been inflicted on them by the Price Tribunal.

The present position is that a ver. dor operating a 60 gallon round has his profit decreased by £2 12s 6d per week, and, as compensation, his leisure is increased by 3i hours per week. In conclusion I suggest, that vendors are best qualified to give information on matters directly concerning them, and that, if any further evidence or information is required, they be contacted.—l am, etc., * ••VENDOR”
