MAXIMUM PENALTY IMPOSED IN ONE CASE “You have had six previous convictions, and I have to impose the maximum fine of £100," said Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., at the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday to Peter A. Healey, who was charged with keeping a common gaming house in Guyton Street. Defendant was given time to pay the fine. For using his residence as a common gaming house, Reginald Rogerson (Mr. R. S. Withers) was convicted and fined £75. It was stated that when the detectives arrived 97 bets had been taken, amounting to £4l 2s 6d. Defendant had three previous convictions. The magistrate said that if defendant came before the Court, aeain on a similar offence the maximum fine would be imposed.
