HOTEL LICENSEES FINED
“The licensee put a carton of beer in a room for the Maoris to let them have a ‘flutter,’ as it was the last match of the season,’’ said Senior-Ser-geant F. Culloty, giving evidence in a case at the Wanganui Magistrate's Court yesterdav in which Percival H. Wilmshurst, licensee of the Bridge Hotel, Wangaehu. was charged with selling liquor after hours. It was contended by Mr. V. B. Wilmshurst was convicted and fined £lO and costs, and on another charge of failing to keen a register of lodgers at the hotel, £5 and costs. Referring to the last charge, the magistrate, Mr. J. H. Salmon, said it was a new provision which had for its object the prevention of fictitious names being given in such cases. ANOTHER BREACH. Anslie B. Dunstone, licensee of the Albion Hotel, on a charge of selling liquor after hours, was convicted ana fined £lO and costs.
