.Mr. E. Manley has been re-elected president of the Marist Cricket Club. Mr. J. H. Hayhow was re-elected president of the Wanganui Cricket Association last night. Captain C- S. Swan, on furiuogh from Trentham Military Camp, is visiting Wanganui. Messrs. K. H. Cave and R. W. ■ Orton, who died during the year, were ; referred to at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui Cricket Association. As a mark of respect to their memories the meeting observed a brief silence. Flight-Sergeant P. C. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones, Waikupa, Okoia, has been commissioned in the R.N.Z.A.F., in the rank of pilot-officer, according to a recent issue of the Gazette. He is at present, in England. Flight-Lieut. G. P. Adams, R.N.Z.A.F. (medical branch), of Wanganui, has been promoted to squadron leader, according to the New Zealand Gazette. Squadron-Leader Adams is at present on duty in England. Mr. P. Kallenberg, who has just been released from the armed forces, and who previously was a theatre manager in Gore, has arrived in Wanganui to manage the Regent Theatre. As a wartime measure the Majestic and Regent. Theatres were previously jointly managed by Mr. Allan Tong. Mr. A. McPhail was elected president of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce at the annual meeting last night. He succeeds Mr. C. S. Jeffs, who has held office for two years and did not seek re-election. Mr. S. R. McCallum was elected vice-president. Warm tributes to Mr. Jeffs' work as president were paid by Mr. D. G. O'Toole. Mr. Arthur Taylor, whose death occurred at Westport yesterday, at the age of 69, was formerly town clerk of Westport and secretary ot the Patriotic Society. He was a pastpresident of the Westport Bowling Club, Past-master of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge, First Principal of the Kawr.tiri Royal Arch Chapter, and a former secretary of the Buller Hospital Board. Mr. G. H. White, who has resigned from the staff of the Bank of New Zealand on account of health reasons, was farewellcd by the staff. The manager, Mr. D. O. L. Howden, making a presentation of a hanging mirror and a book suitably inscribed, referred to Mr. White’s long and loyal service in the bank, and on behalf of the staff wished him a speedy return to health and many happy years on his retirement. Mr. White will remain in residence in Wanganui. Mr. J. A. Ross, who has been a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Wanganui, for the past 18 years, was farewelled by the staff on Friday afternoon. The manager, Mr. D. O. L. Howden, in presenting a cheque to Mr. Ross, conveyed to him the staff’s good wishes on his appointment as accountant at Inglewood branch. Mr. Ross left for his new post yesterday. Mrs. Ross and family will join him in about a month's time. Mr. Clifton Lloyd Ramsden, for the past seven years manager of the Wellington Woollen Company’s mills at Petone, was found dead in his car on Saturday night. In 1911-12 he represented Wellington at Rugby football. He was, one of Wellington’s selectors for a time. He was the fourth member of his family to be manager of the Wellington Woollen Mills, a position previously occupied by his grandfather, father and brother. —Press Association. Mr. A. Mon'igatti, who is visiting Wanganui, is a former Wanganui rep-’ resentative Rugby footballer and athlete. For several seasons he played for the Pirate Club and represented the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club at sports meetings along the West Coast. Later Mr. Monigatti played for the Waverley Football Club, which competed with marked success in the Wanganui senior championship more than 10 years ago. He is now a resident of the Hutt, Wellington. Mr. J. A. Valentine, retiring chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, was farewelled at a representative gathering at New Plymouth on Friday night. The function was arranged by the North Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, the assistant director of education, Mr. A. McMurtric. t lie president of the New Zealand Educatioonal Institute, Mr. J. Barnett and the new chairman of the board, Mr. W. H. Jones, being present, together with a large number of teachers and education officials. A presentation was made to the guest ol honour, who suitably rplied to eulogistic references made to his work for education. Mr. Thomas Richard Cresswell, M.A., a former headmaster of Wellington College, died in Christchurch on Sunday. He was born in Christchurch in 1868. and was educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School, and later graduated M.A. from Canterbury College, with honours in Latin and English, and an Exhibition in Latin. Mr. Cresswell started teaching at Wanganui High School and lai er spent 19 years as headmaster of Rangiora High School. When he was appointed Senior Inspector of Secondary Schools for the Dominion in 1917 he revised and improved the whole secondary school government in New Zealand. He was president, ot the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Association in 1922. He was appointed principal of Wellington College in 1921, in succession to Mr. J. P. Firth, and during his seven years’ headmastership saw the roll increase from 600 to 900. He retired in December, 1927.
