Men with up to four years’ service in the Middle East were among approximately SOI) who returned recently. In addition, there were five W.A.A.C.’s. who had been on service with the New Zealand Division, 14 R.N.Z.A.F. men from the Middle East and India, and 24 members of the R.N.Z.N.R. from England and the Eastern Fleet. Thev were welcomed by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, and official party, and arrangements were made for most of them to proceed to their homes the same day for periods of leave up to three months. Civilian passengers included the wives and fiancees of servicemen, and a Croat girl evacuated from Yugoslavia, who is to join relatives in New Zealand. WANGANUI PERSONNEL ARRIVE Wanganui personnel were met at Marton last night and were brought through by motor transport, arriving I about 7 p.m.. thus avoiding a tiring journey by rail over the latter stages. The Main Trunk party travelled by special train, which was due fi arrive at Taihape at 9.50 p.m. Men for Taranaki (ravelled by motor transport from Wellington.
