SCOPE FOR THE FUTURE

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN WANGANUI “Some commercial men who are members mention specifically that the chambter is not emphatic enough in its various endeavours,” said the newlyelected president of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce. Mr. A. McPhail, at the annual meeting last night, “While I am of the opinion that the above objection cannot be sustained, taking into consideration the large amount of business put through by our executive in Wellington on behalf of affiliated chambers and commercial trading generally, there does seem some ground for a more positive action in considering our national and local commitments.” Mr. McPhail added. ’‘The answer to the above, of course, is that objectors should take a more active interest in the chamber and so inject more life into the deliberations .of the council. For this reason it is [most essential to have strong committees, the members of which should have a good working knowledge of the tasks to he undertaken. The efficient work of these committees will mean that more attention can be given to local affairs." The Chamber of Commerce was par- | ticularly interested in the commercial well-being of the community as a whole, and was anxious to help solve problems which arose from time to time in every-day commercial transactions.
