SOCIAL AND PERSONAL.

Miss Joy Clover, of Wellington, is visiting Wanganui as the guest of Miss Clemance. Mrs. P. Ryan, Ingestre Street, is visiting Miss McMurray, Palmerston North. Miss Shirley Fisher, of Palmerston North is spending a lew days in Wanganui. Miss Kathleen O’Toole, a student at the Otago University, is spending the term vacation at her home in College Street. Mrs. A. J. Burtt, No. 2 Line, has been visiting Wellington to see her son, Lieutenant G. W. Burtt, who was invalided home from overseas and is in hospital. The women’s section of the Wanganui branch ot the National Party, held a bridge evening in Victoria Hail on Thursday night when about 30 tables were occupied in play. Efforts For Red Cross. To assist the funds of the MosslonSpringvale Red Cross, a childrens party was held by the Mosston W.1.. recently and a flag "500” was given byMrs. Denman. As a result of the efforts the sum of £6 was handed io Mrs. M. Fell, president of the branch, who thanked the organisers. The flag "500” winners were Mesdames McMillan, Shaw and Simmons, the latter also being the winner of most clips. The cake competition was won by Mrs. Hawkins. Okoia VV.D.F.U.

The July meeting of the Okoia branch of the Women's Division was held in the Okoia Hall. Mrs. Beattie presided ever a fair attendance and welcomed one new member. It was decided to send in parcels to assist the City Council’s appeal for the patriotic quota. Members are asked to note that the September meeting will be held in conjunction with Miss CocksJohnston’s visit Mrs. Bland won the competition tor the month (a pair of boy s Dants), also an amusing competition. The birthday will be held in October in the Okoia Hall.
