YESTERDAY’S GALLOPS AT HAWERA

Final gallops for horses to race at Hawera on Saturday were performed yesterday morning. The early workers were favoured with good overhead conditions, but rain set in before training operations were completed. The outside of the course proper was used, the pegs being 40 feet out and the going holding. Ette Quex (Mudford) and Golden Ash (Moore) galloped live furlongs in 1.11, slowing up over the last two. Ette Quex finished in front. Golden Ash is an unlikely starter in the Weraroa Stakes. Vermette (George) finished better than Mr. Cute at the end of three furlongs in 41sec.. after having had barrier practice. H. Dulieu was out supervising the work of Desert Victory’, Broiveine, Martial Note and Whackie. The team is looking particularly well and members were given solid pace work on the sand. Master Francis (Mudford) sprinted a couple of furlongs at the finish of his work on the sand in 26sec.

Indian Sport was given useful pace work.

Kilmanagh. a recent winner from Hawke’s Bay, sent over the steeplechase fences without a companion, baulked several times before being got over.
