YESTERDAY’S GALLOPS AT HAWERA
Final gallops for horses to race at Hawera on Saturday were performed yesterday morning. The early workers were favoured with good overhead conditions, but rain set in before training operations were completed. The outside of the course proper was used, the pegs being 40 feet out and the going holding. Greek Art (Mills) sprinted a couple of furlongs in 26sec., his stable-mate, Beau Fox (Mudford), occupying 41sec. to cover an additional furlong. Ette Quex (Mudford) and Golden Ash (Moore) galloped live furlongs in 1.11, slowing up over the last two. Ette Quex finished in front. Golden Ash is an unlikely starter in the Weraroa Stakes. Aristocrat (Clutterbuck) and a companion were given a working gallop over a mile. Silver Chain (Clutterbuck) running his first three furlongs in 42sec., finished up five in I.ll*.
Miss Corvette (Clutterbuck) finished well in front of Black Salve over four furlongs completed in 55isec. From a slow start Apocalypse (Clutterbuck) led Battledress (Holland) throughout a six furlongs gallop that occupied 1.25 L the last three in 43sec., neither being chased out.
Aiderman (Lewis) showed his quality by sprinting three furlongs down the back in 38*sec. Peter’s Choice (Holland) and Black Plato (Clutterbuck) finished together at the end of five furlongs completed in 1.9, the last three in 42sec.
Boden Park sprinted two furlongs in 26isec. Comrade (Lewis) and Corday (Clutterbuck) galloped half a mile from the seven furlongs post in 55sec. Amigo (Clutterbuck) finished up a round of pace work by coming home his last half mile in 57sec. Barras (Holland) and Adrigoole completed five furlongs in 1.10. Vermette (George) finished better than Mr. Cute at the end of three furlongs in 41sec.. after having had barrier practice. H. Dulieu was out supervising the work of Desert Victory’, Broiveine, Martial Note and Whackie. The team is looking particularly well and members were given solid pace work on the sand. Master Francis (Mudford) sprinted a couple of furlongs at the finish of his work on the sand in 26sec.
Indian Sport was given useful pace work.
Kilmanagh. a recent winner from Hawke’s Bay, sent over the steeplechase fences without a companion, baulked several times before being got over.
