THE BELGIAN ARMY

MAINLY ESCAPEES

Reed. 6.30 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 23. Belgian circles in London state that the Belgian army is now in action in northern France for the first time after its reorganisation in Britain—apart from a few Belgian commandos who took part in the operations in Italy—and consists mainly of Belgian soldiers and officers who escaped from Belgium, and Belgian nationals of the 1900 to 1924 classes, called up in Allied and neutral countries. Some of these troops had their first training in Canada, anti will feel quite at home in a certain sector where they are now fighting. The Belgian forces include .infantry and artillery formations of armoured squadrons, commandoes. paratroop units, and engineers, as well as signal and army service troops.—B.O.W.
