City’s Clock Chimes.

“We can leave this to the ccty engineer.” said the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, when the question of restoring Wanganui’s towji clock chimes was raised at a recent, meeting of the City Council. The bells were removed from the tower in Cook’s Gardens at the end of 1941 for the purpose of supplementing the city’s E.P.S. alarm system in various parts of the suburbs. “We fully intend replacing the bells when the opportunity offers,” said the city engineer, Mr. L. F. Row. The bells were removed by volunteer labour, but taking them down from their present positions would not be a big undertaking.
