WHAT OF GRATUITIES?
(P.A.) Parliament Bldgs.. Aug. 23. Mr. T. L. Macdonald (Opp., Mataura), in the House of Representatives, gave notice to ask the Minister of Defence it the Government would give Immediate consideration to the question of paying war service gratuities to members of the New Zealand services on retirement, or discharge. Mr. Macdonald said the matter was widely discussed by members of the forces, and an early announcement would assist them in formulating plans for the future. He added that the Canadian forces were to receive gratuities in accordance with the length; sphere and terms of service.
