The Rev. J. C. A. Cole, vicar of Hikurangi for the past five years, has been appointed vicar of All Saints' Church, Wanganui East.

Detective C. D. Taylor, a member of the detective staff in Wellington for the past four years, has been transferred to Hamilton.

The death occurred suddenly yesterday afternoon of Mr. Albert Smith, aged 58, manager of the Liverpool Statb Mine. He was gassed in the mine on August 14, but recovered. — Press Association. Mr. Andersen Tyrer, the English pianist and composer, who has been conducting Trinity College examinations in Christchurch, has returned to Wellington. He will be engaged for the next fortnight examining theory examination papers.

Messrs. G. A. Ammundsen, P. D. England (Automobile Association), W. J. Gilberd (Employers’ Association), and S. R. McCallum (Chamber of Commerce), have been appointed as co-opted members on the Wanganui City Council’s Tourist, Publicity and Development Committee. Captain L. J. Dumbleton, N.Z.M.C., a member of the scientific staff of the Cawthron Institute, who has served with an anti-malaria unit in the Pacific for nearly two years, has returned to Neto Zealand and is spending a short furlough with his wife and daughter as the guest of the Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., and Mrs. Rogers. Mr. H. Trickett, who died recently, was referred to by.the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Roger’s, at a meeting of the Wanganui City Council last night. Mr. Rogers said Mr. Trickett was on the staff of the city engineer’s department for 18 years and was held in the highest esteem. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried.

The death occurred recently in Dunedin of a well-known and esteemed resident of Roslyn, Mr. George Duncan. He started work as a youth with Messrs. Hallenstein Bros., and remained in the employ of the firm for 531 years. He was one of the early Kaikorai footballers, and his brother, “Jimmy” Duncan, was the well-known All Black and Otago representative player. He is survived by his wife, one son, who is a pay sergeant in the Australian Corps, two daughters and three grandchildren.
