BIG GOLF UPSET

PROFESSIONAL GOLFERS’ TITLE IN U.S.A. Reed. 8.55 p.m. New York, Aug. 21. In the most spectacular upset in the history of the tournament Bob Hamilton, aged 28. Evansville, Indiana, defeated Byron Nelson, considered one of the greatest, if not the best, golfer the game has known, 1 up in the Professional Golfers’ Association championship. It was Hamilton’s first championship tournament. Nelson played 196 holes during the seven days’ championship, 30 under par. but in the final round was badly off putting form*, taking three at the 9th, 16th and 291 h holes, losing them He also continually missed putts which were usually taps in without difficulty. The finalists were all square after the morning round . but Hamilton went ahead at the 19th, going into the final lead at the short 34th with a birdie. Hamilton is little known at the major I tournaments.
