LICENCES NOT RENEWED “This is the more serious charge of the three,” commented Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday, when imposing a fine of £2, costs 10s, on Ernest Percy Rountree, charged with using an unlicensed trailer. On a further charge of operating a motor-vehicle which did not carry a warrant of fitness, defendant was fined 10s, costs 10s, and for not having a warrant of fitness for the trailer he was ordered to pay costs only, 10s. Inspector J. H. Delves, who prosecuted on behalf of the Transport Department, said that on June 29, last, he was passing through Kai Iwi township when he saw a trailer, containing pigs, attached to a van. The trailer did not carry a number plate and inquiries showed that it had not been registered for the year, which expired two days later. “Defendant's driver's licence was 19 days overdue,’’ said Inspector E. Hamling, who appeared on behalf of the Wanganui City Council in the case of Carl Holger Sorenson, charged with driving a motor-car in Taupo Quay on July 19 when he did not have a licence. “It is just a case of failing to renew,” said the magistarte, imposing a fine of £l, with costs 10s. - Tahi Rangi was fined £l, costs 4s, for driving an unlicensed lorry on July 2. and 10s, costs 10s, for not having a driver’s licence. “This is a case of defendant failing to renew his licences,” said Inspector Delves, “They were 20 days overdue in each case.”
