“WE HATE RUSSIA”

GERMANS BETTER DISPOSED TO BRITAIN AND U.S. Recd. 10 p.m. New York, Aug. 21. “We do not hate the British and Americans but we hate the Russians.” This reply was given to a North American Newspaper Alliance correspondent in the west of France by one of thousands of German prisoners. Several of them expressed the complete conviction that some time soon, possibly even in this war, the British Americans and French will join Germany and fight Russia. Of one thing they are all sure— Communism will never take hold in Germany. One of them said: “The National Socialist Party is through as far as the people are concerned. It made too many mistakes.” When you ask them about Hitler, they do not answer but shrug their shoulders, grin apologetically and look ashamed.

German prisoners work astonishingly well and are well satisfied with their treatment. They are certainly being well looked after, so much so that a -local newspaper published a French complaint that the Americans are being too .olicitous for the welfare of the Germans and should give more of the special foods and so-called luxuries to the French.
