ALLIED AID FOR FAR EAST
LEND-LEASE MATERIALS Heed. 11 P.m. Washington, July 17. Nearly 1,400,000,000 dollars worth of Lend-Lease materials were shipped to the China, Burma and India theatre up to May 1, 1944, said Mr. Leo T. Crowley, ' United States Foreign Economic Administrator. Three-quarters of il consisted of military equipment, planes, tanks and guns for the Chinese, British and Indian forces. Mr. Crowley cited the construction of super-Fortress bases in India and China as examples of reverse Lend-Lease. New York, July 17. The New York Herald-Tribune’s Washington correspondent says the announcement is apparently designed to offset the trend of doubt regarding Allied military efforts in the China-Burma-India theatre.
