Flight-Sergeant Peter C. Siddall, of Maxwell, has been promoted to the' rank of pilot-officer. according’to the New Zealand Gazette. Mr. J. W. Harding has been reelected chairman of directors of the Hawke’s Bay Farmers' Co-operative Association. Mr. A. A. McLachlan, 8.A., LL.B., of Christchurch, has commenced duty there as a temporary stipendiary magistrate. Mr. C. M. Turner, town clerk of Wairoa, has been appointed town clerk of Blenheim to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. T. F. Bull. Mr. C. Kidson, city engineer of Nelson, has been elected chairman of the .Nelson Catchment Board. Mr. Kidson was formerly on the staff of the Wellington city engineer. Mr. L. A. Atkinson has been appointed secretary to the Public Service Commissioner. Mr. Atkinson, who has been serving with the service for 20 years, has been recently attached to the inspectorate of the Public Service Commissioner. Chaplain Captain George R. Thompson, who recently returned after 18 months' service in the Pacific, has been reappointed to his former' position as youth director for the Salvation Army in Canterbury' and Westland, his headquarters being at Christchurch. Lieut-Colonel S. A. Church, editor of the Salvation Army newspaper, the New Zealand War Cry, is retiring from active duties this month after 14J years in’ this position and nearly 40 years in the Salvation Army. He took up his present position in 1929, and for the past five years has also been in charge of the Army’s inquiry and investigation bureau, which is concerned with tracing missing persons. Mr. A. G. Bignell, whose death "occurred recently, was a foundation member of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric-power Board. 'Dili fact was referred to by the chairman, Mr. F. Purnell, at the monthly meeting of the board yesterday, who added that the late Mr. Bignell had taken a great interest in pioneering work of the board, and his presence would he greatly missed in the community. A vote of condolence was passed, with members standing in silence. Two Y.M.C.A. field secretaries, Mr. B. W. Potter, of Wellington, and Mr. K. C. Thornton, serving overseas with the Second N.Z.E.F., have been mentioned in dispatches for distinguished service in the Middle East. Mr. Potter's next-of-kin is his wife, Mrs. J. Potter, care of the Y.W.C.A., Middle East. Mr. Thornton’s next-of-kin is ids father, Mr. G. C. Thornton, Lower Hutt. Pior to joining the Y.M.C.A. in September, 1940, Mr Potter 'was a member of the staff of the Palmerston North Technical School. Mr Potter served with the Y.M.C.A. for a period in New Zealand, but for most of the time he has been with the N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East and in Italy.
