CLEARING SALES, WESTMERE AND WANGAEHU

N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Incorporated in England) report on clearing sales at Westmere and Wangaehu, last week:— “We opened ur series of clearing sales for the season last Monday, when we offered on account ol Messrs. Baker and Newberry, Wangaehu, their dairy herd, comprising some 40 cows and heifers, which came forward in good condition. Buyers were present from Taranaki, Rangitikei and local districts. “The majority of the cows in this herd were not very early calvers, but any cows coming to profit in JulyAugust sold particularly well, and were eagerly sought after throughout the sale. Sundries sold at late rates. “Quotations are:—2nd. and 3rd. calvers due July, £ll to £l2 10s; 2nd. and 3rd. calvers due August, £9 10s to £lO 10s; 3rd. and 4th. calvers due August/September, £8 10s to £10; backward sorts to £4 7s 6d; springing 2-year heifers, to £10; Jersey-Ayr-shire-cross weaner heifers to £4 18s. Implements, etc. —Spring cart, £l5, hay rake £l5, tractor mole drain plough. £67 10s, electric motors £5 15s to £l3. On Thursday last, we offeree}, on account of Mr. A. E. Thompson. Westmere, his complete dairy herd of 60 cows and heifers, which came forward in excellent, order. There was a particularly large attendance of buyers, who opened the sale with spirited bidding, which was maintained throughout, Taranaki and Rangitikei buyers securing the majority of lhe forward cows. Prices at this sale showed a decided advance on previous repo:|ts, more particularly, seeing the dairy enquiry is/iot yet at its peak. “Prices realised were- Cows in full pro lit to £l3 10s; 2nd. calvers due July. £l2 10s to £l4 10s; 2nd. calvers due August, to £l3 ss; 3rd. calvers due August £ll 5s to £l2 2y 6d; 4th. calvers due August/September, £lO 15s to £ll ss; backward sorts and late calvers, £4 15s to £8; 2-year Jersey springing heifers, £9 5s to £9 15s; weaner Jersey heifers to £5 9s.
