ALLIES JN ITALY STIFFENING RESISTANCE (11 p.m.' London, June 18. Allied forces, west of the Apennines, are still progressing, in spite of stiffening enemy resistance. At one point a place has been taken 80 miles northeast of Rome. An Allied communique says: “The sth. Army is now moving northward from Foligno and closing in on Perugia.” Reuter's Rome correspondent says General Alexander has called on the Pope and is believed to have discussed the food situation in Rome.
