MONETARY INFLATION IN GREECE

As a result of the German occupation, Greece is suffering the worst monetary inflation in history, in addition to extreme starvation, reports the New York Times Cairo correspondent. The pound sterling was worth 90 drachma before the Axis invasion. Now it is worth 2,000,000 drachma. Current prices in Athens, all in thousands of drachma, are: Newspaper: 200 One cigarette 20 A pair of shoes 500,000 A loaf of bread 2000 Housewives carry their money in huge suitcases. The team is to train on Spriggens Park on Thursday at 7.30 p.m. Any player not available is to notify either the Rugby Union secretary (Mrs. Brisco), telephone 5083, or the sole selector (Mr. Whiting), telephone 3007. Compared with the side which played Taranaki, Wrigley replaces K. Dunlop at full-back; Bruce replaces M. downs on the wing; Hunter replaces M. Hihira at first five-eighths. In the forwards Wright replaces J. Whale at the back of the scrum; R. Voullaire, R. Cross, D. Almond and A. Northover have been dropped, the newcomers are O’Connor, Adams, Larkin and Crombie.
