CITY BEAT WANGAEHU IN EXCITING MATCH PENALTY GOAL ON TIME A successful penalty kick on the call of time enabled City to beat the chain pionship leaders, Wangaehu, by 13 points to 12 in a keen match, played on Spriggens Park on Saturday afternoon. Tne kick which won the game was not without dispute, as one of the linesmen declared that the ball had failed to go between' the posts, but the referee, Mr. G. Thrush, seen after the match, was emphatic tnat it did go fairly between the posts. He said he had no hesitation in ruling a successful kick. ’ Mr. Thrush was in an excellent position to see the flight of the ball at the time. While closely contested, the match between Kaierau and Pirates lacked the colour and movement of the early game. It was a forward tussle. The nnal honours went to Kaierau by three points to nil. The defeat of Wangaehu has heightened interest in the championship, as their lead has now been reduced Lo two points. Fine weather prevailed, and the attendance was the best recorded for a cup match so far this season. The positions ot the teams on the ladder are as follows: —Wangaehu 10, City 8, Pirates 6, Kaierau 4. Because of the representative match with Manawatu next Saturday no senior club matches will be played that day.
