FOUND A HOME
WOMAN WHO WAS CAST INTO STREET A STATE-OWNED HOUSE AVellington, June 16. Mrs. Mary Harris, who, with a family of eight, was ejected from a condemned Wellington house on Thursday afternoon, now has a house. After conferring with the Mayor. Mr. AV. Appleton. Mr. R. Malcolm, representing the Greater AVellington Electors' Association, contacted the Prime Minister’s Department, the State Advances Department and the Ministry of Works, and it was agreed that she be given a State-owned house at Highbury, Wellington, at 27s 6d weekly. The rent of lhe slum she had occupied for four years was once 35s and was reduced to 26s by the Labour Department. No rent had been accepted by the landlord since the house was condemned and there were some arrears before that. The keys of the Highbury home were immediately available. The owner of a seaside cottage had offered it I temporarily, a.nd numerous other sug- ! gestions for accommodation of the family were made by people to-day. Mrs. Harris has been an applicant tor a State house for four years.
