BAR ACCOMMODATION
I)Ah U.n.’lvlJA 1 IV.'N STEPS TAKEN BY TRUST IN INVERCARGILL. LEASE OF TEAROOMS (P.A.) Invercargill, May 26. Because the bar accommodation at the Grand and Milford Hotels may not be ready by July 1, the Invercargill Licensing Trust proposes to secure the lease of the Brown Owl tea-rooms. This was disclosed at a meeting of the trust to-day. It was stated that the Brown Owl would not be an additional place for the serving of liquor, but that it would be used until bars in the permanent hotels in the city were completed. It was also stated that the trust would be under obligation to continue to serve meals at the Brown Owl. It would be the trust’s first experiment of “mixing” liquor and other refreshments. Members expressed opinion that there would not be room for a bar and that all the liquor would have to be served at the tables. When referring to the progress made by the trust, the chairman said that he expected that suburban premises would be ready by July 1. It was also announced that the trust intended to purchase Elmwood Garden, a building in attractive surroundings used for dances, wedding breakfasts and other social gatherings.
