Captain F. U. Booth, N.Z.P.S. (retired) is an inmate of the Wanganui Hospital. Mr. C. W. Bowden, M.P. for Wel- , I’ngton West, left Wellington on Wednesday on a short business trip to Australia. , Mr. C. E. Robertson, manager of the stud stock department oi. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., has been appointed a director of the company. Mr. R. Sievers has been re-elected president of the Makara-Hutt Valley branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Miss M. J. Lamont, sports mistress at the Wanganui Girls’ College, who has been on service overseas as a V.A.D., has tendered her resignation to the Board of Governors. Miss Lamont was married in the Middle East. Miss Bishop is the present sports mistress at the college. Commissioner J. Evan Smith, territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, with Commissioner W. R. Dalziel, territorial commander for South Australia, who came to New Zealand lor the annual congress meetings, left Wellington on Wednesday night for a tour of the South Island. Bro. E. Fletcher, a trustee of Court Little John, A.0.F., Marton, since March, 1928, tendered his resignation at the monthly meeting on Tuesday, as he would be leaving shortly fo.r Wanganui. The resignation was accepted with regret, and it was dectided that a farewell function be held on quarter night, June 27. Tributes to the retiring treasurer, Bro. H. C. Gronn, P.C.R., were paid at the monthly meeting of Court Little John, A.0.F., Marton, by the secretary, Bro. L. Mclndoe, Trustee Bro. E. Fletcher, and other speakers. A minute embodying sentiments expressed was ordered to be placed on the records. Bro. Gronn was elected treasurer in December, 1916, and had represented the Court at district meetings. Temporary-Sergeant Claud McM. Cole, husband of Mrs. N. A. Cole, Wanganui, has been reported wounded. Prior to serving in Italy, Sergeant Cole held a commission in a regiment stationed in Wanganui. He went overseas with a unit which served in the Pacific during 1943, and returned to New Zealand to relinquish his commission and join a reinforcement destined for the Middle East. He was promoted from second-lieutenant to lieutenant while serving in the Pacific, and relinquished the latter rank to serve in the Middle East. He was intelligence officer of a battalion in Wanganui, and hater in the Pacific.
