SUCCESSFUL YEAR

PROGRESS OF WANGANUI SAVAGE CLUB Highlights at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Savage Club, held recently were the large attendance of members and the presentation of a balance-sheet which showed that the club is in a very healthy condition. Of the 195 members, 28 are on active service. More than 60 attended the meeting. The Rangatira, Mr. H. Fry, slated in his annual report that in spite of difficult times excellent programmes were presented. The club had progressed very satisfactorily, the membership having increased by 40. Twelve koreros were held during the season,’ the chair being occupied by the Rangatira, Past Rangatira E. Lind, Savages Gishard, C. Aitken, C. Bradley, W. Steele, C. Rhimes, W. Upton, J. L. Barriball, and Dr. G. J. Adams (ArikD. The Wahines’Korero in September attracted a record attendance and was a most enjoyable evening. "On July 17, 39 Savages raided the Wellington Orphans’ Club, and those members who were fortunate enough to make the trip had a wonderful time and are looking forward to future raids, "the report added. "We were fortunate that the Wellington Orphans were able to pay a return visit, with seven members, on September 4. A very happy time wae spent renewing friendships." During the year the club held its first up-river picnic, members and their families participating in an enjoyable outing. The finances of the club were described as being very satisfactory, fIOO being transferred to the National Savings Account. Ln addition, improvements were carried out to the building. “We have continued to send parcels to our boys overseas and have received many letters of appreciation from them," the report stated. "We were pleased to welcome back Savages H. Gilberd, E. Westbrook, G. E. Tovell-Soundy, C. Jukes, A. Glengarry and H. Renz.” Officers elected were: Arlki, Dr. G. T. Adams; rangatira. Mr. H. Fry; tohunga, Mr. W. S. Steele; toa, Mr. R. D. Smart; committee, Messrs. R. Tulloch. W. H. Ward, D. Buck, A. J. Pritchard, and W. G. Seabrook; treasurer, Mr B. R. Dobbs; secretary, Mr. E.
