ANNUAL MEETING OF FARMERS’ UNION (0.c.) Hunterville, April 19. the annual meeting of the Hunterville branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held last Saturday, in the Town Hall, there being 24 members present, Tfye report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, and the election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. V. F. Toulmin (re-elected unopposed); vice-presidents, Messrs J. L. Lambert, R. G. Dalziell and H. J. Tod; executive committee, Messrs. L. Laird, D. D. Simpson, A. H. Rhodes, J. D. Lilburn, D. Cameron, and P. Powell; delegate to interprovifcial council, Mr. K. Hammond. The following motion was passed: That delegates to the Wellington Central Executive be elected at the annual meeting.” Two remit s to the Wellington Central Executive were also brought forward: (1) “That the wages of all farm workers be stabilised.” (2) “That no remit bo passed at the Dominion Executive before it has been referred back to the Provincial Executive an:i branches if necessary. GENERAL ITEMS Mrs. G. Snadden presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union on' Tuesday. Mrs. L. G. Thompson gave a very interesting talk on India. Articles lor a box to be sent to the New I Hebrides with Rev. and Mrs. I. Muir when they take up their duties as missionaries there, were brought bv the members. At the next, monthlv meeting members are asked to bring clothes for a box to be sent to the Maori Mission. Nominations of members for the Hunterville School Committee closed last Monday, and the annual meeting will take place next Monday night. The Hunterville branch of the Navy League will hold their fourth annual shop on Thursday, April 20. It is hoped that it will he well supported by town and district. Next Sunday, at Ihe Presbyterian Church, the Rc.v. Alan Brash, M.A., 8.D., of St. Andrew’s, Wanganui, will be the preacher at the evening service. His address will be illustrated by lantern slides. A retiring collection will be taken al both services that day, in aid of the chaplain's fund.

COMPANY APT AIRS. TUI BREWERY PROFIT. Tui Brewery, Ltd., Mangatainoia. reports a net profit at £7058, compared with £6626 the previous year. Gross profit was £31,296, against £31,911. Dividend of 6i per cent, (unchanged) required £(>o9B, and £960 was added to , the carry-forward, making it £4170. ' MT. MORGAN DEFICIT. Mt. Morgan reports an estimated working deficit for the four weeks ended April 2 of £6919. ORIENT LINE ACCOUNTS. i The accounts of the Orient Steam • Navigation Company, Limited, for the year ended June 30 last, show that the operating profit, including estimated net receipts in respect of steamers under Government requisition, and income from investments, after providing for deferred repairs and taxation, amounted to £335,131, in comparison with £524,270 for the preceding year. There was a profit of £18,956 (£21,839), on the sale of investments, and £92,749 (£80,944) was brought in, making £446,836 (£627,053). The sum of £200,000 (same) has been set aside for depreciation of the fleet and £50,000 added to pension reserve, while a tax-free dividend of 5 per cent, is recommended on the ordinary shares, leaving to be carried forward £103,662. For the previous 12 months, when the dividend was the same, £lOO,OOO was transferred to the general reserve account. The balancesheet totals at £10,432,412 (£7,799,426). The issued capital remains at £2,325,140. The reserves total £6,924,725, of which that for replacement of lost steamers, depreciation in investment and other contingencies accounts for £4,138,082, the underwriting account for £586,643, the pensions reserve for £200,000, and the general reserve for £2,000,000. Trade creditors are shown at £1,006,276 (£1,304,591). On the assets side, the fleet and other property is valued at £1,198.308 (£1,622,641;, stores £45,106 (£32,455), debtors £2,007,763 (£914,155), investments in Government and other securities £6,992,537 (£4,625,411) and cash £lBB,698 (£193,058). QUILL MORRIS ACCOUNTS. The accounts of Quill Morris (1936), Ltd., wine and spirit merchants, Christchurch, for the year ended January 31, show a net profit of £2745. compared with £3465 last year, and £3071 in 1942. Gross profit was £14,554, a decline of £lOl7. Dividend of 5 per cent, took £lB2B, loss on sale of Government stock amounted to £l3B, and £lOO was transferred to general reserve, reducing the cerry-for-ward by £221 to £623. Decreases in stocks, debtors and investments, were reflected, in a drop of £10,255 in creditors, including bank overdraft. LEWIS BERGER PROFITS. The directors of Lewis Berger and Sons, Limited, report that after providing for taxation the net profit for the year ended July 31 amounted to £188,791 (£200,907), to which was added £121,227 (£132,833) brought in, making £310,018, against £299,400 a year ago, when £34,331 was written off goodwill of subsidiary companies. It is proposed to pay a final dividend of 10 per cent., making 16 per cent., less lax, for the year on the ordinary shares, together with a bonus of 3 per cent., also less tax, while £50.000 (same) has been transferred to general reserve, leaving to be carried forward £131,836.
