PRESS REPORTING IN THE HOUSE
FURTHER QUESTIONS ASKED (P.A.) Parliament. Bldgs., March 9. In the House of Representatives today, Mr. D. C. Kidd (Opp., Waitaki) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister. Mr. Fraser, whether his attention had been drawn to the fact that in this week's issue of the Standard reports by that paper's Parliamentary reporter totalled 94i inches for Government. speakers, and only two inches for the Opposition. What steps would the Prime Minister take, following his expressions of indignation on the subject of unfair reporting, to deal with the Standard, which had recently advertised on the radio that it had a staff reporter in ihe Press Gallery? Would the Prime Minister give an assurance that, before he took any action dealing with privileges extended to the Press Gallery, he would consult the House and not the Government, which had. for years, extended tc the daily newspapers the privileges of publishing reports of debates, and had provided facilities for reporting?
