HEALTH STAMP SALES
FUND BEING EARMARKED FOR WANGANUI MEETI'NiG OF TRUST BOARD The Wanganui Health Camp Trust Board met yesterday, when the Health Postage Stamp Campaign was discussed. Mr. Hope Gibbons presided, and others present were the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., Messrs E. F. Hemingway, A. G. Bignell, G. N. Boulton, and A. R. Donaldson. An apology was received from Mr. R. G. Taiboys, who was out of town. Mr. Donaldson, who had attended a meeting of the Wellington Central Council of the New Zealand Federation of Health Camps, gave an interesting report of the discussion at the meeting which had been held on February 4. He stated that lie had been assured by the chairman that the whole of the proceeds of the sales of health stamps in the Wanganui postal district would be handed over to the Wanganui Health Camp Trust Board, even though the military are still in control of the Wanganui Health Camp. Xhe money could be used to finance the cost of sending children requiring health camp treatment to the-Otaki camp, which, it is expected, will be reopened in March, or April next. Mr. Donaldson also reported that a sum of £55, which represented a subsidy on last year's sales of health postage stamps, would be remitted to the Trust Board at an early date. This amount was actually received by Mr. Donaldson soon after the meeting terminated.
The King George V Memorial Fund Trust Board, which is at present receiving rent from the Defence Department for the use of the Wanganui Health Camp property, is placing the total amount to the credit of Wanganui in its books. "And when we are in a position to reopen our camp,” concluded Mr. Donaldson, "the money will be available for any capital expenditure required.” Mr. Gibbons said that the report was an excellent, one, and will give encouragement to those peopFe who were sympathetic to the health camp movement in this district. Mr. Rogers spoke in a similar strain, and said that Mr. Donaldson was deserving the Trust Board’s warmest >inks for his efforts. A resolution to this effect was carried by acclamation.
The progress of the local Health Postage Stamp Campaign was discussed, and Mr. Gibbons stated that various concerns in which he was interested in Wanganui would purchase £lOO worth of stamps. The City Council had purchased £lO worth and the Education Board a similar amount.
Mr. Donaldson reported that Mrs. J. J. Scott had given valuable help in organising sales, exceeding £l5O. to business houses in the city, and it was decided to send her a letter of appreciation of her services. The circular sent out. by Mr. Donaldson to 200 business houses was approved, and the hope was expressed that as a result of the combined efforts of those working so hard. Wanganui’s total sales would bear favourable comparison to the rest, of the districts throughout the Dominion.
