NETHERLANDS AND BELGIUM
POST-WAR UNION LIKELY Recd. 12.5 a m. New- York, Feb. 10 Belgium and the Netherlands hav*i decided to set an example for post-war Europe by uniting economically in a customs union, which it is expected will be announced in April, says the New York Times’ Washington correspondent. Luxembourg will be included, but not the Netherlands or Belgian colonies. The Times points out that this action by the Governments in exile of the two most important neighbouring small Powers in Europe, will be the first hopeful augury for a widening of free trade areas in Europe, long perceived as necessary by economists. This example, it is learned, mal be widened by the including of France, if ?he is so disposed. A financial, but not an economic, agreement with Britain is also a strong possibility.
