PATRIOTIC APPEAL IN WANGANUI

SOME DONATIONS RECEIVED RESPONSE NOT UP TO EXPECTATIONS “The people of the Dominion, over the past four years, have voluntarily subscribed funds to provide contorts and amenities for the men and women of our fighting services and the Wanganui district has taken its full share in that effort,” said the chairman of the Wanganui City Patriotic Committee, Mr. N. R. Bain, yesterday. “We are now entering the fifth year, and we hope the last. The district quota is £17,000, and this amount, less what has been received since the end Qf the last financial year, has to be iound before September 30 next. “In response to widely expressed views, we are endeavouring to obtain the amount required by direct giving during the months of January and Fabruary of this year. So lar, the response has not been up to expectations although several substantial donations have been received. If the direct giving appeal does not succeed, and we hope it will, then other forms of appeal will be adopted. Wanganui has always responded generously and we are confident it will do so again. “Full particulars of how patriotic moneys are expended have already been given on many occasions through the Press, and if anyone desires further or more detailed particulars, these will readily be supplied by the Patriotic Office. 50 Ridgway Street, or by the chairman.”
