British and South African sappers in Italy have built six bridges and three tunnels, and put down 6000 lengths of rail and 46 sets of points and crossings. A twenty-four hours’ job is carried on, and where German railway-wrecking machines have been used the sappers have to make good

the total destruction not only of the bridges and railway tunners, but also th? sleepers, in one section of 1Z miles the enemy wreckers had been most active. Twelve bridges had been blown up, including one ot 24 spans, and 300 lengths ot rail and 25.00 J sleepers had been destroyed.
