MOTOR ACCIDENTS IN 1943 Fewer fatal motor accidents took place in New Zealand in 1943 compared with either of the two previous years. During the year there were 138 accidents involving the deaths of 145 persons. In the previous year the fatal accidents numbered 159 and deaths 167, and. in 1941 the 158 accidents caused 175 deaths. Last year’s 138 fatal accidents included 40 collisions with pedestrians. 26 collisions with motor vehicles, 20 collisions with bicycles, 11 with trains, ten with fixed objects, and cy with a tram. Cars going over banks caused ten fatal accidents. The year’s fatal motor accidents involved the deaths of 67 occupants of motor vehicles, 42 pedestrians, 20 cyclists, and 16 motor-cyclists and pillion-riders.
