BOLIVIAN SAIL-TRIMMING

Recd. 6 p.m. New York, Jan. 2. The new Bolivian Government, which is composed of ambitious militarists, former pro-Axis politicians, and some honest Socialists, is basically anti-American, but is prepared to offer opportunist concessions for the sake of international recognition, and may even be willing to sacrifice some pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic members to make the Government more acceptable tG the United States, says the La Paz correspondent of the New York Herald-Tribune. The Santiago correspondent of the Tribune says that South American diplomats who are at present conferring on the Bolivian question declare there is little likelihood of their Governments recognising the new regime. Recd. 9 p.m. Buenos Aires, Jan. 3. Argentina has officially announced recognition of the Bolivian Government, the first American Republic to do so. Recd. 9 p.m. Washington, Jan. 3. Diplomatic quarters regard Argentina’s recognition of the Bolivian Government as a flat challenge to the United States and other American Republics and makes drastic action against Argentina inevitable, according to the Associated Press. Possible action may include a break in diplomatic relations aM economic, sanctions. The Associated Press says this move will undoubtedly be taken jointly with Britain.
