Reference was made to the work or the women of the district, especially in connection with the soldiers’ parcels, knitted goods and drives for waste paper, iron and other materials. The parcels were packed in cases made by Messrs. MCClymont and A. A. Car-ay. The cases were stencilled, labelled and packed by memoers of the Patea institute, wired by Mr. D. Since the committee's inception a total of almost £lO,OOO had been raised in the district. Expenses amounted to less than £2O. The secretary referred to the soldiers’ parcels scheme and said another band of women under the organisation of the Mayoress had consistently performed a great deal ol voluntary assistance in making up many hundreds of knitted comforts of all kinds .ci members of the forces, as well as a large supply of hussifs, the materials for which were supplied in bulk. To both the former and present mayoresses and their helpers the committee had conveyed its appreciation of their work.
