REPRESENTATIVE’S GOOD EFFORT Conditions were favourable for fast work at Riccarton on Tuesday. The outside of the couise proper was open, and the gallops were divided between this and the plough. Reuresentative end Expanse were compainions over a mile, the distance taking 1.43 2-5, the second half in 54 4-ssec. They kept together till well down the straight, where Representative. hard ridden by his Cup rider, H. Wiggins, commenced to draw away, and was six lengths in front at the post. Representative again pleased, but Expanse’s finishing effort was not as impressive as in his previous gallop. On the course proper, St. Cloud finished well clear of Justitia at the end of a mile in 1.44 1-5, the first half in 50 4-ssec. Kevin, usually a poor track worker, recorded the best mile gallop of the. morning, taking 1.42 2-5, the first three in 37 4-ssec. Palfrey, Scottish Dale, Foxhaven and Night Pal were dispatched from the mile and a-quarter, but as they could not be timed correctly from that point they were clocked from the mile post. Palfrey led from the start and was followed through the back stretch by Night Pal and Foxhaven, with Scottish Dale held in behind them. This was the order into the straight, but inside the final furlong Scottish Dale put in a solid run to draw up to Palfrey, who finished a neck in front, with the other pair abreast three lengths back. The time was 1.44 2-5, the second half in 50 4-ssec. The Derby candidates Upton and Stavros covered the best mile of a ten furlong task in 1.47 3-5, Stavros finishing on better. Other mile tasks were executed by Botany and Full Pitch, in 1.47 1-5; Gunga Din, in 1.46; Prince Dolomite, clear of Gay Parade, in 1.46 2-5; Scottish Lad, in 1.48; Big Top, in 1.49. Seven furlong gallops were registered by Gamble and Saldowa in 1.32 1-5; apd by Gulf Stream and Great Legend in 1.32 3-5.
Lord Advocate and John Gay were responsible for a smart effort over six furlongs, finishing abreast in 1.14 4-5, the last half in 50sec. Others over this distance included St. Nattar and Gayfort, in 1.18; Chellow Dene, 1.18 3-5; Prince Dorie and Sessun, in 1.18 2-5. Piccolo and Pensacola were together in front of Beau Cheval at the end of five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, the last four in 49 3-ssec. Sir Bradbury went over the same ground in 1.3. The best half-mile sprint was credited to Lalla Meer, who beat Falconbridge in 48 2-ssec. Others included Rawhamai and Waltzing Matilda, in 49s£c.; Abduction, Caterpillar gelding, Liquidate, and Debater, in that order, in 49 3-ssec.; Periwig, in front of Perjure, in 50 1-5; Trueway and Chestnut Glow, in 50 1-5; Whitley and Vafort, in 52sec. Renarde was well clear of Lincoln at the end of seven furlongs in 1.31 2- and others over this journey included Norse and Bascule, 1.33 2-5; Retriever and Dark Folly, 1.33 2-5; Irish Note and Arustra, 1.34 4-5. On the plough, Burberry again ran on solidly in beating Paper Lily over a mile in 1.45, the second half in 52 3- Good Scout and Langue d’Or ran five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, the last three in 38 2-ssec. Sally Lux finished in front of Night Shot and Stand-to at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 4- the last four in 50 l-ssec. Dinah Dhu and Sham Boy covered the same ground in 1.3 2-5, the last three in 38 l-ssec.
