MEAT PRODUCERS’ BOARD

Wellington, Nov. 24. At ’ a meeting of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board last week, a report was received from the special committee which had previously been set up in connection with the opening schedule prices for the 1943-44 season. Several conferences have taken place between the board's committee and; representatives of the Government, and the opening schedule prices for lamb were recently announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Marketing. It is hoped that the opening prices for wethers, ewes and beef will be published shortly. During the afternoon the members of the board had a discussion with the new Minister of Agriculture and Marketing. Mr. Roberts, about utilisation of funds in the meat pool account lor the benefit of the industry. A draft of the Fat-Stock Disposal Order for the new season was submitted by the Director-General of Agriculture and received the board's concurrence.

A report was received with reference to the latest nosition relating to the New Zealand Government’s contract with the United. Kingdom Government for the supply of 2500 tons of dehydrated meat during the present calendar year. -Further progress was reported about providing bursaries for veterinary students, and it is expected that details will be announced shortly.
