Australian Wood Borer. An Australian wood-boring insect, the grubs of which are said to have been imported in electric-power poles, is attacking exotic trees in the Taumarunui district. An example was seen by members of the Taumarunui Hospital Board while inspecting a plantation of Trees at the back of the hospital. A section showed definite signs of the depredations of the borer, a number of trees being affected. It is stated that the borer starts at the top of the tree and works its way down toward the base, and the tree dies from the top. Farmers in the district are attempting to deal with the pest by topping trees as far down as the borer has reached.
