ADVICE ON EUROPE

U.K. REPRESENTATIVE MR. WILLIAM STRANG Recd. 6 p.m. Rugby, Nov. 21. It is officially announced that Mr. Williaji Strang has been appointed United Kingdom representative on the European Advisory Commission. His indefatigable help at every stage of the Moscow conference, where he was, as Mr. Eden said, “the brilliant Foreign Office leader of our team,” has also been recognised by the award qf K.C.M.G. The British representative on the commission will have the rank of an ambassador. The other two members of the commisison have not yet been announced. At the same time as the appointment of Mr. Strang as the United Kingdom representative on the threepower European Advisory Commission v.rs made known in London, Moscow radio announced that the Soviet Government had appointed M. Gusev, their Ambassador in London, as chief representative of the Soviet Union on the Commission. The United States representative has still to be appointed.—B.O.W. Mr. Strang, who is 50 years of age, has been an Assistant Under-Secre-tary of State at the Foreign Office since 1939. He served in the Great War and entered the Foreign Office in 1919, becoming first secretary in 1925. He was acting Counsellor of the Embassy at Moscow in 1930 and Counsellor in 1932.
