DEAN WARREN’S VISIT

ARCHDEACON YOUNG RECALLS FIRST MEETING

Paying a tribute to the Very Rev. A. K. Warren, Dean of Christchurch Cathedral, who will visit Wanganui to-day, the Venerable Archdeacon J. R. Young said yesterday that this distinguished clergyman was probably one of the youngest deans tnat New Zealand had ever known.

"I have been very much interested,” said Archdeacon Young, "in meeting Dean Warren again, and I'm sorry to be out ot town for his address in the Savage Club Hall to-morrow night on the Princeton conference on reconstruction I first met nim a good many years ago when I was vicar of that interesting strip of 300 miles of bush and beacn, the parish ot Ross and South Westland. The Rev. K. Warren, as he was then, had come out lor the benefit ot his health, after a serious operation, and to visit his home in Hawke’s Bay. He also wanted to see something of parish lite in the 'out-back,' so came to stay lor a few weeks with me at Hari Hari. He was an experienced rider and came with me on one of my quarterly 'Far South' trips —away clown along the pack-tracks and beaches.” Archdeacon Young added that having had a taste ot the "coast.” Dean Warren liked it so much that he later succeeded him as vicar of the same parish. It was during Dean Warrens time that the famous little church of St. James, Waiho Gorge—with the east window on to the Franz Joseph Glazier—was built. He subsequently went to other parishes in the Christchurch diocese and about three years ago received his present appointment. "He is a member of the General Synod which met recently and I had the pleasure of hearing him report most ably and interestingly to that body on the very important work accomplished by the Princeton conference. The subject is one in which every man of goodwill is so vitally interested that I hope everyone will avail himself of the opportunity of hearing what Dean Warren has to say,” said Archdeacon Young.
