OBITUARY.

MR. A. W. EAST. The death has occurred of Mr. Arthur William East, a well-known Harbour Board signalman at Mount Victoria. Mr. East, who was 52, joineel the Auckland Harbour Board staff in 1925, and after serving at Queen's Wharf and Tiritiri Island, was stationed at Mount Victoria in 1927. Mr. East is survived by his wife and family.

MR. JOSEPH LOMAS.

One of the founders of the Bay of Islands Dairy Company and a member of the directorate of the company for many years, Mr. Joseph Lomas, an Okaihau pioneer, has died in Whangarei, aged 71.

MR. D. McK. GILLIES.

The death occurred on Saturday, at the age of 66, of Mr. Donald McK. Gillies, who for 39 years carried on business as a watchmaker and jeweller in Cuba Street, Wellington. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, 66 years ago, and came to New Zealand as a child. An enthusiastic violinist, he was a foundation member of the Wellington Professional Orchestra, and also played with the Wellington Orchestral Society and with the Wellington Symphony Orcestra when it was formd by Mr. Leon de Mauny. He was one of the oldest members of the Wellington Savage Club Orchestra. As a Freemason, he was a member of Lodge St. Andrew, No. 32. Mr. Gillies is survived by his wife, two daughters, and one son, and there are two grandchildren.

MR. C. S. DAVIS.

The death occurred last week of Mr. Charles Seimone Davis, Hawera, in his sixty-eighth year. Throughout his life Mr. avisD took a wide interest in sports, specially in athletics, cricket and hockey. He was a member of the M.U.1.0.0.F., Manaia Lodge, and the Masonic Order for many years. He leaves a widow and two daughters.

MR. M. J. HURLEY.

The death occurred at his residence, Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt, on Saturday, of Mr. Michael Joseph Hurley, a father of the Rev. Father P. V. Hurley, C.SS.R., last heard of at his station in Manila, in the Philippines. Mr. Hurley, who was a native of Goulburn, New South Wales, spent the greater part of his life in Australia. He came to New Zealand about 17 years ago, and was employed by Abbott, Oram and Co., and F. J. Miller, Ltd. Retired for some years (he was 74 years of age), he resumed work when the war broke out, having been employed for some time by Ross and Giendining, Ltd. Mr. Hurley leaves a widow, one daughter and two sons.
